Stevenson Memorial Foundation

My name is Margo Stevenson Herron, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, wife, and mother of two beautiful children. When I was 13, a traumatic event occurred in my family in which I lost my mother, Beth, and my older sister, Sara Jane. This event left a void in my life. It was during this formative time of my youth that I dug deep into my soul and used tennis as my sanctuary. I was privileged that my father had the financial means necessary to allow me to continue my own form of therapy through tennis. The tennis community rallied around my father and I after the accident and these strong relationships helped heal me during this difficult time in my life. Through tennis, I was able to learn important values such as hard work, organization, professionalism, leadership, community, joy, and honesty. These values teach lifelong lessons which translate into fulfilling careers. My love of tennis may have started at a young age, but it has flourished inside of me and been translated to my two tennis playing children. With the money raised through the foundation, we can give the gift of tennis to youth in need in the Rogue Valley.

Mission Statement–Learning life lessons through tennis while making tennis accessible to all youth regardless of means.

Scholarship recipients are expected to maintain high standards of sportsmanship, character, and scholastics. Recipients are also expected to represent the sport of tennis by maintaining an outstanding reputation in both school and community. Failure to maintain this expected behavior level may be cause for a scholarship to be revoked.

Recipient may be asked to do community service, such as helping the tennis pros with the younger students or helping at a Stevenson Memorial Foundation event. The Stevenson Memorial Foundation hopes each recipient will take ownership of his/her scholarship award and give back in a meaningful way. Update/follow‐up letter updating the Stevenson Memorial Foundation on the athlete’s progress and what the scholarship has meant to them will be required at the end of each year.
